The Northwest Indiana Hard Rock Casino is scheduled to open its doors to the public on 14th May. The opening will be marked by a ceremony that will involve a guitar smashing ceremony, celebrating the completion of the $ 300 million gaming facility.
The facility is adjacent to Borman Expressway at Burr Street in Gary. It has 200, 000 square feet of total inside space. Furthermore, it is fitted with 1, 637 slot machines, 80 table games, and a sportsbook. Apart from the gaming space, the facilities have five restaurants, multiple bars, and lounges. The space meant for live entertainment and music memorabilia can accommodate up to 1, 954 people.
Jon Lucas, the chief operating officer of Hard Rock International on Tuesday told Indiana Gaming Commission that the 14th May opening is part of a weeklong celebration of the first land-based casino in Northwest Indiana. The celebrations will involve friends and family invitation events on May 11th and a VIP opening on 13th May.
However, Lucas didn’t specify when the Star Casinos will close its doors permanently. According to Indiana state law, the casino should close immediately Hard Rock opens its doors. The law also requires Star Casino employees to be offered jobs in the new facility.
Lucas affirmed that they will continue to train Star Casino employees to prepare them for their jobs in Hard Rock. Hard Rock International in conjunction with Spectacle will operate the new facility in Gary.
State Senator Eddie Melton D-Gary and Gary Mayor Jerome Prince expressed their excitement about the new Casino. They noted that Gary once was a regional gaming center when Buffington Harbor two riverboat casinos were booming in Northwest Indiana, 25 years ago.
