The 75th season of live harness racing at Harrington Raceway will begin on Monday, April 12th, with a 14-race schedule beginning at 4:30 p.m.
For the most of the season, the First State’s racing circuit moves from Dover Downs to Harrington on a three-day schedule, operating Monday through Wednesday through June 23 until a two-week period of Monday and Tuesday racing before the customary summer break after July 6. On Monday, racing fans should expect full fields and two popular multi-leg wagers: a Pick-4 on races two through five and a Pick-5 on the last five races nightly.
The sixth race, a $20,000 Open Handicap for pacers, is the featured feature. The seven-year-old Bettors Delight gelding, who banked $101,528 in an abbreviated 2020 campaign, is back for trainer and co-owner Josh Green, who partners with co-owners Rich Lombardo Racing, David Kryway, and Eric Good on the seven-year-old Bettors Delight gelding.
Jacks Legend N will make his season debut from post position 7 after two speedy qualifying efforts.A deep field awaits that includes morning line favourite JJ Flynn (9-5, Allan Davis) for owners David Hamm and Rodney Long, former Harrington horse of the meet Slick Tony (10-1, Russell Foster) for owner-trainer George Leager, and recent two-time Open level winner Goldberg (15-1, Montrell Teague) for MST Racing. The field is completed by Phil Jasper’s Drinkin Again (6-1, Art Stafford Jr.), Jo Ann Looney-Qs King’s Cruise (12-1, Ross Wolfenden), Legacy Racing and Reginald Hazzard’s Sicily (15-1, Victor Kirby), and Legacy Racing and Reginald Hazzard’s Sicily (15-1, Victor Kirby), whose impressive career combined bankroll is nearly $4 million.
Last year’s defending driving and training champions will be back in action on opening day, with driver Allan Davis is in all but two of the races and trainer Jim King Jr. having three starters on the card.
With COVID-19-related safety precautions in place, spectators are allowed access to the track apron and bleacher area trackside, while wagering is available in the sports book and simulcast area on the second floor of the grandstand. All patrons wishing to reach the sports book and simulcast area must do so via the casino’s designated health checkpoint.
The clubhouse and upper grandstand are currently closed for the season, but could reopen at a later date.
